Oregon Bound: pt.1

So we set off from Jersey today! I somehow managed to cram a ridiculous amount of things into the car. I'll have to post a picture at some point; it's just a little bit late and I'm tired and I don't want to have to upload stuff to the computer just yet. But honestly there was something in every nook and cranny, from the bottom to the top, from window to window. It's like driving a dump truck -- ain't no way you're going to see out the back with the rearview mirror.

We were just about ready to go -- I even tweeted an "Oregon bound!" pic of my truck all loaded up. But it's kinda hard to leave when you can't find your keys. Yep. I lost them. Took us almost an hour to find them... lo and behold they were already in the car. Just fell among some luggage and were on the floor. But seriously, not exactly a great way to start out a cross-country trip.

Today, according to my Dad, is the longest driving day. We're here about an hour into the state of Ohio, just passed Akron, (in the wonderful town of Stow, for those who know Ohio like the back of their palm) with the day's mileage totaling about 470 miles (around 15% of the total journey, also according to my mathematically/statistically-oriented father).

The drive was pretty uneventful. Maybe it's just cause it was Saturday, but there was virtually no traffic and the driving was smooth. Just a sprinkle of rain, so thankfully the bikes didn't get wet which is really always a plus. And of course, lots of time to talk, listen to music, and bark at some of the idiots on the road (which, surprisingly, was few today).

Tomorrow we're going to hop back on I-80 and head west -- and tomorrow night we will be in Chicago! I should have time to upload some pictures and such of the drive thus far (though western Pennsylvania is pretty much just woodsy-middle-of-nowhere for those who weren't aware). Until then, goodnight!

  1. What an adventure, and with your Dad. What a bonding experience! Can't wait to hear about the other 85% of the trip.
