Earth Pics .

For those of you who are Twitter-inclined, I recently started following an account that has quickly become one of my favorites. It's called Earth Pics, and they post pictures from all around the world, and these photos are absolutely GORGEOUS. It makes me feel several things -- first, that this Earth is truly a work of art, and there are so many hidden treasures out there to be seen and experienced. More importantly, we really need to appreciate those magical time when we are just in the right place at the right time and catch something breathtaking, like a rainbow (or, a double rainbow, which I had the pleasure of seeing while in Ireland; picture posted below). I've begun to save the ones that I really fall in love with, and I'm planning on making a folder for use of background photos for my desktop. Sometimes we just need that extra little oomph of motivation, knowing that the world is a beautiful thing, especially when we're lucky enough to see it at work.

vvv Several pictures I took while in Glendalough, Ireland. If you look close, there are actually two rainbows!

Gratuities .

Earlier today on Twitter, I came across a tweet that had been retweeted by one of my friends that said:

"If you're going to out to eat, tip your server. If not, go to McDonalds. #rudepeople"

Having worked in the restaurant business for several years at a country club, I think I know a thing or two about this. But I'd like to put a few myths to rest. As a server, your gratuity should not be expected. You should be earning this tip. Just because you can throw some silver on the table, write down what somebody wants and plop it in front of them while refilling drinks doesn't mean that you deserve a good (or any) tip. Gratuity is a courtesy and reward for a job well done.

mind-blown .

If you are on Twitter, then you should seriously check out this account called Mind Blown @urmindblown. If you aren't on Twitter, then what the fuck are you doing with your life? Okay okay, I understand if you already have Facebook then you don't feel the need to have a Twitter. Some have both, some connect them, and me? Well I just have a Twitter because I'm anti-Facebook.

That being said, many of the accounts on Twitter are stupid, shoot out tons of spam, or are just plain idiotic. Some are very humourous, but get old quickly. But in this case, I was pleasantly surprised and certainly have been enjoying the tweets that come out of it.

passive social media .

Now that social media has taken over the world, it's pretty easy to blast your emotions out over the internet. It's funny also how easy it can be misinterpreted. I got rid of my Facebook profile almost two years ago, but I have since made a Twitter, and kind of enjoy it. Though of course, Twitter provides the same opportunity to passively blast emotions. I do it all the time, so don't think I'm being hypocritical, either.

employed .

I have never had a job while at school before, and heck, I've never really even looked. I don't like searching for jobs, and I'm not one to pester people into giving me a job. I don't want to get hired because they are appeasing my annoyance, but rather because they want me to work for them, and they value me as a person, both in employment and life in general. That being said, I wanted to look for a job this semester, because, let's be real; after getting back from Spain AND buying a car, my funds were running a little low.

kanye's revolution .

So maybe a week or so ago, Kanye West went through this 86-tweet novel on twitter about starting something new, something real, a bit of a creative compilation of the efforts of many people. I am lucky enough to follow him on twitter, and was pretty inspired. At one point, he invited those who wanted to get involved to send him an email. Well, by this point, I was sold -- and so I did. I wrote my best most compelling email to get myself involved. I think it would truly be an incredible opportunity.
