saying goodbye .

Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things to do. When you meet someone you really click with, and that you really enjoy spending time with, it's even harder. It's easy to say that you'll be okay and all will be well when you meet again. But it is easier said than done. That last hug, that final kiss... it's so hard knowing that this is the last time you'll have that luxury for several months.

Why is goodbye so difficult? Especially if you know that you're going to see each other again? I think often we look at the time ahead and get worried about all of the space in between visits. To be honest, the time always flies! Once school gets off the ground, the weeks will go quickly, just as the summer did. When you work hard, you always look forward to another weekend; another break. They come and go, and before you know it, you're done. I'd like to not rush this year, given that it's my last one in college (as an undergraduate anyways), but I'm sure it will move by just as fast as the previous three years.

This is the first time I'll be involved in a long distance relationship. At first, I was very worried about it, but we definitely have been doing well so far. Despite the short amount of time we have spent with each other thus far, we're in a pretty good place. We placed honesty, trust and communication at the top of our list -- all essential things to making this work. In addition we call often and text some, and once my internet gets hooked up we can Skype too. You realize all the little things so much more in this situation, and you are much more grateful for everything: Time to see each other, a phone call, a picture message, a text.

It will not be easy, but Courtney is coming to visit in October. Until then, I'm sure we'll be just fine.
