Barcelona: Day 80 : Joe Paterno .

With all the things in the news lately regarding former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky, it's an absolute shame to see Joe Paterno's legendary reputation go up in flames. It's hard to believe that such a thing could even happen. Now, I'm not a Penn State fan and honestly could care less about the Nittany Lions, but in this case, my highest sympathies go out to those fans. For years on end Paterno has been a source of inspiration not just for the football team, but for the whole school and the fans also. This sort of thing certainly will taint a reputation...

To those who think he "should've done more" or this or that, I think it's easy to say that hindsight is 20/20. To my knowledge, after reading various articles, I think that Paterno did indeed do what he was supposed to. Again, to my knowledge, he reported it to his superior and that's all he could have done. After that, I would think that the issue is out of his hands.

It's a shame that this is the thing that ends his career. It should be interesting to see how a new coach of the Nittany Lions fares, trying to fill such big shoes. Regardless, hopefully it is all a lesson to be learned -- that if we are aware of something that is wrong, we should do all in our power to alleviate the problem and find a solution.
