down the road .

It's always great to think about the future. Life down the road, you know? It's great to review where you've been, and where you're going. It's even great to take a step back and look at the big picture of the present. I had the pleasure of having a good talk with one of my roommates about all of this... and being that he is a few years ahead of me and thus a bit farther down the road of life, it's always interesting to hear about a different perspective on various things, mainly related to occupation, career, and other things of that nature.

I also was talking to another friend on Twitter about some things I wanted to do in terms of travel and especially just exploring my country inside and out. There are, I think, a lot of awesome and amazing things to see and experience in the states, and there are a lot of things out there that people would easily bypassed.

My goal is to take the road less traveled; to experience all the little things, to talk with the people that live simple life in a the small towns that no one knows exists. How cool would it be to meet these people, hear their stories, and listen to them share their wisdom. Whether they're 30 or 80, I think just having the chance to experience something so different would be an experience in and of itself.

Bring in the pluses of being on the road all the time, never really knowing where you're going next, camping out where you can and sort of living on minimal supplies, and of course, enjoying every bit of nature that you see along the way. It's a perfection satisfactory for even a perfectionist.

I don't know when (if ever) that will happen. But it's nice to think about the possibilities that occur down the road. The fact that I even have a "down the road" is great to think about. I think it's safe to say I've always been a big mix of ambitious and really kind of a risk taker. I like to try new things, live life on the edge, do the sports that physically will put you in danger all the time (freeride, and especially snowboarding). I just get a rush from those things. That's not to say that that's as far as it goes though -- I'd love to go skydiving, bungee jumping, or strap on one of those flying squirrel suits and head to the cliffs. There is something about being in the air and being free and just flying through everything that is glorious.

Well, I've rambled a bit. So it's time to cut things off and head to bed. Long story short? I'm happy to be alive, and excited to begin to experience every bit of the life I have ahead of me -- one little bit at a time.

  1. I love this kind of thinking: looking back - taking stock of and appreciating where you've been, looking ahead and dreaming of what you'd like to do in life and getting a rush just thinking about it, but living and enjoying the moment with people as they are and the beauty of nature. Thanks for making me stop and think!
